Dear Applicant:
We appreciate your interest in ministry opportunities at Appomattox Christian Academy.
Our school motto is Docete Omnes Gentes, or “Teach Ye all nations.” At ACA, we believe that people are created in the image of God, and we are to reflect Christ’s presence in our lives by doing His will. Our faculty and staff are committed to educating the whole person – spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. As we teach and nurture each student, we encourage a lifestyle of excellence in every pursuit and the use of every gift to God’s glory.
To orient yourself to the classical tradition of education, we encourage you to read The Lost Tools of Learning, by Dorothy Sayers and The Case for Classical Education by Douglas Wilson. The Seven Laws of Teaching, by John Milton Gregory, is also a helpful little manual on effective teaching that many of our faculty members refer to regularly. Furthermore, applicants to the Grammar School (grades K-6) positions are also encouraged to read Shepherding a child’s Heart, by Tedd Tripp.

Our Core Values
Teaching as a Vocation
Working with children is a spiritual gift and ministry. It is a vocational calling from God. As such, it is not to be entered into lightly or without due respect. It is to willingly subject oneself to a higher demand of lifestyle.
Mission
The mission of Appomattox Christian Academy is to provide students with an excellent education in a challenging, well-ordered, safe, and nurturing environment, using a classical curriculum, based on: the Ancient Trivium, the study of Latin, and the Great Books of the Western Canon. To do this within an academic community grounded in historical Christianity. To prepare students to face the challenges of life, while instilling in them a love of learning, and a desire to serve God and their fellow man.
Philosophy
ACA is a classical and Christian school.
By classical we mean:
It follows the methodology of the Trivium, seeking to identify appropriate analogies of grammar, dialectic and rhetoric in all subjects and to teach all subjects in a manner consistent with the appropriate stage of development of the child.
It understands the term “classical education” in the context of the classical search for wisdom and virtue through the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty.
It emphasizes and seeks to preserve and pass to successive generations the richness of our Western cultural heritage.
By Christian we mean:
All knowledge is made complete only when seen and understood in relation to the eternal glory and purposes of the triune God.
Each aspect of our educational endeavor is founded upon and informed by a thoroughly biblical worldview.
All subjects are taught as part of a unified, integrated whole that demonstrates God’s character and glory as revealed through creation, providence and Scripture.
